Crowns (aka Caps)
Whenever a tooth has severe decay, fracture, or has a large, old
filling, a crown or "cap" may be necessary. A crown will cover and bind together
the remaining tooth structure, thereby strengthening and improving the
function and appearance of your teeth.
Crowns are fabricated in our
dental laboratory and require two appointments for completion. Types of
crowns include: metal crowns which are made of gold or alloys, Procera
crowns which are used more often on front teeth and made to match
your natural tooth color, and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns which
combine the strength of metal with the esthetics of porcelain.
Bridges
When one or more teeth are lost, the remaining teeth can shift out of
alignment leading to a change in your bite, decay, gum disease or the
loss of additional teeth. A bridge is one or more artificial teeth
anchored by one or more crowns on each side. Bridges are fabricated in
a dental laboratory and may be full metal or porcelain or a combination
just like crowns. Another option to a bridge is a dental implant.
